Tauba Auerbach: Folds was published to coincide with Auerbach’s exhibition Tetrachromat at Bergen Kunsthall in 2012. The book presents Auerbach’s Folds paintings in book form for the first time. In these paintings, Auerbach twists and folds the canvas before applying paint directionally using an industrial paint sprayer. In its stretched form the flat canvas conjures a trompe-l’œil rendering of its previous three-dimensional topology.
Transferred to the medium of the book, the paintings, texts and diagrams are organised according to a formal structure which alludes to one-, two-, three- and four-dimensional space. The book includes diagrams of complex manifolds alongside texts by Emmanuelle Dauplay, Edwin Abbott Abbott and Italo Calvino.
